Örebro, Sweden – At least 10 people were killed in a shooting at a school for adults in the city of Örebro, central Sweden, police confirmed on Tuesday.

The attack occurred at Campus Risbergska, a school that serves adults, including immigrants and individuals with disabilities. The incident, which unfolded around 12:33 p.m. local time (6:33 a.m. ET), prompted a major police response.

Shooter Among the Dead

Authorities initially reported that five people, including the suspected shooter, had been taken to Örebro University Hospital. However, hours later, police confirmed that the death toll had risen to 10, with an undetermined number of injured victims.

Investigators believe the shooter acted alone. Roberto Eid Forest, the head of the local police force, stated that officers had searched the suspect's home but did not provide further details.

Ongoing Investigation and Security Measures

The police operation is still active, with officials urging the public to avoid the Västhaga district, where the school is located. Authorities do not believe any further attacks are planned.

Police stated that charges related to the attack currently include attempted murder, arson, and aggravated weapons offenses, though they did not specify who had been formally charged.

Eyewitness Accounts and Government Response

Video footage from the scene showed a heavy police presence and emergency vehicles responding to the crisis.

Andreas Sundling, 28, a student at the school, described the terrifying moment the attack began. "I heard three bangs and loud screams," he told Swedish newspaper Expressen. "There was blood all over the corridor."

Swedish Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer called the attack “very serious”, assuring the public that police were fully engaged in handling the situation. Minister Mats Persson added that the government was closely monitoring developments.

As investigations continue, authorities are working to determine the motive behind the attack and provide support to the victims and their families.
